Word on the Water is a hidden gem a few minutes walk from Kings Cross station. Carry on reading to find out more.
Word on the Water – The London Bookbage is an independent bookshop on a 100 year old Dutch barge, selling quality second-hand and new books inside the barge. There are actually a lot more books than you might think, including classics, contemporary fiction, children’s books, art and photography books. There is also a cosy wood-burning stove inside the barge with sofas and chairs around it. There is also seating outside and around the barge. There are always a range of different events going on including poetry slams and live readings. To keep up to date with the ongoing events follow their page on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/wordonthewater/
Getting There: The barge is located on York Way in Granary Square, a few minutes walk from Kings Cross Station. The bookshop is open 12pm-7pm everyday. It is generally best to travel there on public transport, particularly on weekdays.
Final Thoughts: I would recommend checking out this unique bookshop, especially if you are near by or passing through. It is a lovely and cosy place for those who love reading and books. There is lots more to do in the area around the barge including Kerb Food Market, Granary Square Fountains and Camley Street Natural Park. There is also a Dishoom in Granary Square, which is a popular and halal choice for those passing through.
