I recently went to the Breakin’ Escape Rooms – carry on reading to see why I think it’s a great place to visit especially now as we are approaching winter!
As much as a I love the cosiness of winter it does mean spending less time outdoors and having to find things to do indoors instead. Escape Rooms are a great way to have fun avoiding the cold and rain outside.
Escape Rooms are a fun and exciting immersive and interactive experience where you get locked into a room and have to work together with a team to figure out the clues and codes to escape before the time runs out. I am not going to go into too much detail about the actual experience as I don’t want to give any spoilers and ruin the games, so this post is going to be a short and sweet one.
Getting There: I personally visited the Breakin’ Escape Rooms, but know there are lots of different companies and locations out there depending on what you are looking for. We actually found a great deal on Groupon which is why we went to Breakin’. They are located on 89 Holloway Road in North London. It is a few minute walk from Highbury & Islington Station on the London Overground and Victoria Line.
Price: Prices really vary depending on what escape room you visit. Breakin’ Escape Rooms show on their website that prices range from £19- 30 depending on what time you go. However we like I said earlier we found a great deal on Groupon and actually paid £12 each when we went on a weekday. It is worth looking around for a cheaper deal if you have flexibility on what time or day you can go.
You need to arrive 15 minutes before your actual booking time. You are typically given an hour to escape the room once the timer has started. Each room has between 3-6 players. If you are going with a larger group of people you can split into groups and go into different rooms.
I did have a quick look online to see whether there are any age restrictions but couldn’t find any information. It is probably worth calling them up before hand to check if you are taking children with you.
Each room has a different theme and level of difficulty depending on how much of a challenge you want. When visiting recently with friends we went to the ‘Flying Dutchman’ room. I loved this room, especially because I am such a fan of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. In the past I went with work colleagues and we did the ‘Sherlock Holmes’ room – which is a lot more difficult and sadly we didn’t manage to escape before the time ran out.
The team who work there are really friendly and helpful. They will help and guide you whilst you’re in the room if you are going down a wrong track or are close to cracking the clue and only have a few minutes left.

Final Thoughts: Escape Rooms are a great idea and so much fun whether you are going with family, friends or work colleagues. There are lots of different options out there for different themes, levels, prices and locations depending on what you are looking. It is a fun and unique experience to enjoy and one I would highly recommend checking out 😀
