Covered: Amigos – London

Amigos Burger & Shakes has become a staple halal burger place in West London.  They have recently opened a branch in East London. I went to check it out… carry on reading to see what I thought…

Getting There: Amigos in East London is located on Cranbrook Road in Gants Hill in Ilford. The full address is 400 Cranbrook Rd, Ilford IG2 6JD. Amigos is really easy to get to and access. A number of buses pass through the area including the 66, 123 and 150 bus routes. Gants Hill Station (Central Line) is a minutes walk away. There is on street parking bays opposite the restaurant and on surrounding roads. During the day you will have to pay for parking but after 6:30 there is plenty of free parking near by.

The restaurant is decorated in vibrant colours and has a chilled out vibe. My experience of the service was great and the staff were really friendly.

It is also worth mentioning the restaurant is a few minutes walk from Gants Hill Masjid which is perfect if you are visiting there close to prayer time. A few doors away from Amigos is Sahara Grill who have a lovely prayer room and are usually happy for people to use the room to prayer  even if they are not eating there Alhamdullilah.

Menu and Pricing: The meat is all halal certified as advertised on their menu.  As far as I am aware they are not HMC certified. I have messaged them regarding this and will update this blog post once they have replied. There is no alcohol served within the restaurant.

As in the name the name Amigos menu is predominantly burgers. They have a range of burgers  in all different types and flavours depending on what you want. The burgers can be ordered in 6oz size (£5.99) or 10z (£7.99). There are also a number of other options to choose from  including hot dogs, chicken strips, wraps and chicken platters.  They also have a number of sides including wings, nachos, fries or onion rings. They serve a range of different flavoured milkshakes and desserts.

Compared to some other similar burger places I found the prices to be quite decent.

What I ordered: I myself ordered the Amigo burger in 6 oz (£5.99) and sweet potato fries (£2.69). I also ordered a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup milkshake (£3.99). A friend of mine also ordered a 6 oz burger (£5.99) and mac n cheese sticks (£2.69). My other friend ordered the Hot Dog (£4.99). I personally found the portions to be generous and filling. I have to say the food quality was quite mixed in my opinion – with some burgers being much better than others. Like I said earlier the prices are quite cheap compared to some other burger places so I guess you pay for what you get. I have heard the food in the West London branches is better quality but I haven’t tried it myself so cannot comment on that.

Final Thoughts: Overall I think Amigos in East London has a great vibe and location. It makes sense to visit if you are with a group of people who are on a mixed budget as it quite affordable compared to some other burger places.
