Covered: Yas Marina Circuit – Abu Dhabi

Yas Marina Circuit is one of the most iconic sites in Abu Dhabi. As the venue for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix it bought people from all over the world to Abu Dhabi. The circuit was designed by Hermann Tilke a German engineer and racing driver. The circuit  is the second Formula 1 circuit in the Middle East and is located on Yas Island. Yas Island is of course home to the infamous Yas Mall, Yas Waterworld and Ferrari World.

A number of events are hosted at the arena including conferences and concerts. The Yas Marina Circuit offers a range of experiences including guided tours, the Yas Driving Experience, Go Karting, Track Days and the Zayed Marathon. In this post I will be focusing in particular on the weekly active sessions that take place throughout the year at the circuit. If you want to know about the other facilities and events at the circuit then I would recommend checking out the website –

The Yas Marina Circuit has regular ‘Get Active Weekly’ sessions. These sessions are supported by Daman’s ActiveLife, Health Authority Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Sports Council. You can sign up to enjoy cycling, walking, running and embracing a healthy lifestyle on the Formula 1 circuit. These include the StartYas sessions on Sunday and the TrainYas sessions on Tuesday. On Wednesday the GoYas sessions are available for women only.  On Wednesdays the circuit is closed to the general public to ensure the privacy of participants and all activities are supervised by certified female trainers and staff.

The sessions are open for all to access regardless of age or ability. The circuit is 5.5 km long and you can do as many laps as you want. There are lots of people ready to assist you along the track if you need help including taking you in a buggy back to the main entrance if you require it. The track has different lanes that easy to navigate depending on whether you are cycling or walking.

You need to register before attending the sessions. Once you have registered online you will be provided with an up to date schedule, maps and information. When we visited we signed up for the cycling session. Once you arrive the sessions are very well organised and once you get your bike you are ready to go. Moving around the track offers some incredible sights including the Yas Viceroy, an iconic five star hotel – the only one in the world to straddle an F1 race track,  built half on land and half over water.

Getting There: The circuit located on Yas Island of the coast of Abu Dhabi. It is easy to get to if you are getting a taxi. There is plenty of free parking near by if you are driving there.

Price: As said earlier in this post I am only focusing on the ‘Get Active Weekly’ sessions if you want to know the prices for the other experiences take a look on the official website. These sessions are completely free – all you have to do is register before hand. Once you arrive you can use one of the free bikes and helmets or choose to pay a little more to hire a better quality bike.

Final Thoughts: I loved my experience of cycling around the Yas Marina Formula Circuit. It truly was a unique and special experience and one I would highly recommend trying out if you are in Abu Dhabi. It is such an exciting way to tour and experience the incredible Formula 1 track.
